Christian Birchler

Long Story Short

About Me

Welcome to my corner of the academic world. I’m Christian Birchler, a PhD student at the Software Engineering Group (SEG) at the University of Bern, and a research assistant at the Software Engineering Group of the Zurich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW).

I invite you to explore my academic journey, where I delve into the intricate realm of computer science, with a special focus on software testing. My research revolves around search-based software testing and fuzzing, primarily exploring ways to improve testing methodologies for self-driving cars (SDCs).

I play a role in the EU Horizon 2020 COSMOS project (“DevOps for Complex Cyber-physical Systems”), where I contribute to the ongoing exploration of innovative testing practices in virtual environments. Feel free to check out my modest Google Scholar profile to glimpse into my scholarly contributions and my involvement in the EU Horizon project COSMOS.

In my GitHub space, you’ll find my personal profile (ChristianBirchler) and my organization (christianbirchler-org), featuring some tools and projects I’ve worked on. One project that holds a special place is SDC-Scissor, a tool aimed at improving the test selection process in the regression testing of self-driving cars software.

With a master’s degree in Informatics from the University of Zurich, specializing in Software Systems and a minor in Data Science, my academic journey is built on a solid foundation. My bachelor’s degree, earned at the University of Zurich, focused on Software Systems, complemented by Applied Probability and Statistics as a minor subject.

Join me on this humble academic journey as I pursue a PhD in Computer Science at the University of Bern. My vision is to contribute to the field of software testing by offering a comprehensive regression testing framework, specifically tailored for simulation-based testing of cyber-physical systems. Let’s explore the possibilities at the crossroads of academia and technology together.
